Thousands Bid Farewell to Pan-Africanist Anania Mugisha

Itojo, Ntungamo — A sea of mourners gathered on Sunday at Itojo playground in Itojo Sub County to pay their final respects to Anania Mugisha, fondly known as Kyafayo, a revered pan-Africanist and former Ntungamo District local government driver.
Born in 1952, Mugisha passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026, after a short illness. His life was marked by dedication to family and community, leaving behind three wives, 12 children, three sons-in-law, eight daughters-in-law, and 30 grandchildren.
During the funeral, his daughter Smart Atukundire, an inspector of schools, described him as “loving, hardworking, innovative, and a unifying factor in the family.”
Tributes poured in from local leaders, with Ntungamo District Local Council Five Chairperson, Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba, hailing Mugisha as a committed citizen who worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of those under his care.
The outpouring of grief and admiration underscored Mugisha’s legacy as a man who embodied the spirit of unity and service, leaving an indelible mark on both his family and the wider Ntungamo community.
