Ntungamo District Chairperson Samuel Muchunguzi Rwakigoba has urged civil servants, particularly teachers, to desist from multiple borrowing, warning that the practice is undermining service delivery in the district.

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon at the district council hall during a meeting with headteachers of government-aided and private primary schools, Muchunguzi noted that several staff members have abandoned their duties due to mounting pressure from money lending institutions. He emphasized the importance of living within one’s means and prioritizing essential expenditures.

Ntungamo Chief Administrative Officer Fedelis Kiiza echoed the call, stressing that both teachers and communities share the responsibility of ensuring that children receive quality education and life skills.

District Education Officer Denis Ntare raised concern over schools particularly private institutions that have sidelined sports activities in favor of examination performance. He warned that such practices are detrimental to holistic education and will not be tolerated by district authorities.

John Kato, Chairperson of the Headteachers Association, commended the district leadership for its continued support and called for collective responsibility among leaders, teachers, parents, and foundation bodies to strengthen education standards.

Meanwhile, District Inspector of Schools Bahati Fred urged teachers to improve monitoring of staff attendance and ensure that they fulfill their duties diligently.

The meeting highlighted the need for financial discipline, teamwork, and balanced education practices as key pillars for improving learning outcomes in Ntungamo District.
